Holy Terror – The Team Behind The Terror

HOLY TERROR

The Team Behind The Terror!

by: Stephen Ingves

Written & Directed: Rich Mallery

Executive Produced: Gregory Hatanaka

Supernatural horror Holy Terror” which is set to premiere March 28th at the Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood was written and directed by Rich Mallery who is known for his work on “Table Top”, “Sociopathia” & “Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance”. The film is  executive-produced by legendary producer and filmmaker Gregory Hatanaka who has overseen or been affiliated with the distribution of over 200 films in his long and successful career.

The film involves the parents of a deceased son who believe the strange disturbances in their home are actually their child’s attempts to reach out to them from the other side. The parents, Molly & Tom (Kelly Reiter and Jessie Hlubik) seek out help from Janice (Lisa London) who happens to be a medium, in an attempt to make contact with their son. However things go horribly wrong and instead of making contact with their child Molly & Tom, along with Janice, unknowingly invite a demon bent on vengeance to cross over! The vindictive demon violently possesses Molly’s younger sister Billie (Nicole Olsen), with no one able to help or stop it. With little hope and choices as to what to do, the couple look to disgraced priest, Father Jacob (Scott Butler) and his mentor, Sister Catherine (Kristine DeBell) to attempt a terribly dangerous exorcism.

Rich Mallery notes the challenges in giving audiences something fresh that they haven’t seen before with such a resurgence of exorcism/possession movies. But Mallery addresses this, “We have a few tricks up our sleeve that are going to make “Holy Terror” stand apart from the crowd. Plus we’re going for a real late ’70s early ’80s feel. Films like “The Changeling”, “The Amityville Horror” and of course the original “Exorcist” are huge influences on this project.” Gregory Hatanaka adds “Holy Terror” works on deep psychological levels and has an other-worldly, Twilight Zone-ish kind of feel.”

This happens to be Mallery & Hatanaka’s 4th film that they have worked on together. They teamed to create cult favorite “Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance”, “Blue Dream”, “Sociopathia” and of course “Holy Terror”. With such a history working together you can count on them having developed a distinct chemistry. They have also brought back many of the cast they worked with on “Samurai Cop 2” so most if not all are already familiar and comfortable with the way Mallery & Hatanaka work and support their vision. This chemistry and familiarity allows the cast and crew to work together seamlessly and in sync on many levels. I would like to take a few moments to profile some of the iconic cast who will be a big part in ensuring “Holy Terror” becomes a cult classic.

            Mel Novak

Mel  (Father Murphy) has been the ultimate martial arts and action movie villain spanning many years and has gone toe to toe on screen with a list of Hollywood elite that will never be duplicated. The Martial Arts Hall of Famer has had the opportunity to be directed by legendary filmmaker Robert Clouse (Enter the Dragon) on four different occasions. Mel battled Bruce Lee in “Game of Death” as Stick the Assassin, Chuck Norris in “An Eye For an Eye”, Steve McQueen in “Tom Horn”, Yul Brynner in “The Ultimate Warrior”, Jim Kelly (Enter the Dragon) in “Black Belt Jones”, Joe Lewis in “Force: Five” and recently Bai Ling (The Crow) in “Samurai Cop 2”. However the cast assembled in Mel’s upcoming film “Checkpoint” is a true tour de force! Mel will star opposite Kane Hodder, Tyler Mane, William Forsythe, former WCW wrestling superstar Bill Goldberg, Kenny Johnson and Fred “The Hammer” Williamson. Mel appeared in popular series such as Baretta & as a hitman on Mannix which is where he scored his first on-screen kill. Demonstrating his range, Mel also secured roles in the comedies “Exit to Eden” with Dan Aykroyd & Rosie O’Donnell and “Dear God” opposite Greg Kinnear & Tim Conway. While Mel has been one of the finest villains on screen of his generation, he is actually an ordained minister and has received numerous civic & humanitarian awards for over 30 yrs of charitable volunteer work on skid row. He has also counseled prisoners at some of the most dangerous prisons in the U.S. and has been a volunteer for the Special Olympics.

Kristine DeBell
   Kristine DeBell

Kristine (Sister Catherine) has enjoyed a long and successful career in which she has starred in numerous hits from 1979’s “Meatballs” and 1980’s “Battle Creek Brawl” (as Jackie Chan’s on-screen girlfriend) to appearances in television favorites such as CHiPs, Eight is Enough, Barnaby Jones and The Young and the Restless. Kristine also costarred opposite Richard Gere in 1978’s “Blood Brothers”. A fun fact about that movie is Kristine’s character Cheri actually dumped Richard Gere in the film for none other than…Robert Englund! Another highlight of Kristine’s outstanding career was securing a role in 1978’s “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” which afforded her the opportunity to work with cinematic greats Robert Zemeckis as the films director and Steven Spielberg as the executive producer! Throughout her career, due to her hard work, Kristine has earned the ability to work alongside such incredible talent the likes of Kim Basinger, Barbara Streisand, Dee Wallace, Margot Kidder, Tony Curtis and many more. She was cast in 2015’s Samurai Cop 2 and is starring in the drama “Merrily” which is currently filming and set to be complete later in 2017.

Lisa London
      Lisa London

Lisa (Janice) began her career in the spotlight in her teens as she was a Bob Hope Classic Girl who had her own weekly column in the newspaper The Daily Sun and also interviewed local and international personalities and sports celebrities for CBS radio. Along with literally dozens of credits as an actress, in particular her roles in the films “H.O.T.S.”, “Private Resort”, “Sudden Impact” and “Samurai Cop 2”, Lisa is an accomplished singer. The fact that she was a member of the female singing group  “The Pinups” demonstrates her wide ranging and extensive talent. She has a couple other projects in post production due out in the next couple months so keep an eye out for some of Lisa’s work due to be released very soon!

Kelly Lynn Reiter
  Kelly Lynn Reiter

Kelly (Molly) was a small town girl from North Carolina who got into college early and majored in bio-medical engineering at UNC Chapel Hill. But something was calling her and at 18 years of age Kelly made the decision to move to L.A. to follow her dreams. She was always comfortable in the limelight singing professionally at 6 years old, modeling by age 11 and beginning what will become a successful acting career at 13. With acting opportunities and options limited in North Carolina, the decision to move to L.A. was a smart one. Especially when you look at Kelly’s diverse skill set which includes singing, playing guitar, improv, stand-up and with her acting credits including a balance of horror, comedy, dramas and thrillers, she clearly made the correct decision to follow her hopes, dreams and love of performing. Kelly has numerous credits including the television series The Z Virus, along with approximately 10 other projects currently in pre or post production and set to be released in 2017 and 2018.

Vida Ghaffari
  Vida Ghaffari

Vida (Hayley) has been extremely busy in the movie business with over 30 credits as an actress as well as a writer and producer. She is known for her work on the television series The Mindy Project, 2014’s Lovesick Fool – Love in the Age of Like, “Hybristophilia” – which is set to premiere March 30th and she also secured a role in the 2014 “Robocop” remake. Vida even appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and played one of the characters in a skit for the show. She has received 5 nominations for her work as an actress which is a testament of her talent. Along with “Holy Terror” and “Hybristophilia”, which are both set to premiere in a matter of days, look for Vida’s starring role in the horror/drama “Circus of Dread” which is slated for release in 2018. In addition to Circus of Dread, Vida has at least 7 projects in pre and post production not to mention a number of projects that have not been announced yet.

Jessie Hlubik
    Jessie Hlubik

Jessie (Tom) is a producer and actor known for his roles in films such as 2002’s horror/drama “May”, 2013’s “All Cheerleaders Die” and 2011’s “Violent Blue”. Jessie has also appeared in an episode of the popular series Castle in 2011, as well as an episode of the much talked about Showtime series Masters of Horror in 2006. Both of these series put on display an extensive number of accomplished stars and top level talent. Jessie also retained roles in “Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance” and “Puppet Master X: Axis Rising”.

Scott Butler
       Scott Butler

Scott (Father Jacob) moved to the U.S. from south London in 2002 while working as a video game artist for Sony PlayStation. He loved bringing characters to life so he made the jump to acting and began his training at some very prestigious acting schools. In no time at all Scott landed the role of Jack the Ripper in the series Hollywood Hell which ended up winning a Regional Emmy. In 2011 Scott was awarded “Best Actor” at the Canada International Film Festival for his work in the comedy/drama short Abeo. Since Abeo, Scott has worked tirelessly on numerous shorts, television series, T.V. movies and feature films such as the family favorite “Weiner Dog Internationals”. He has also appeared on popular shows on The Food Network, National Geographic, Lifetime and Biography.
